What kind of prescription do you have?
Approximate result. It does not replace a prescription from an eye care professional; if you are coming from glasses, confirm your prescription with an optometrist.
Glasses → Contact lenses
How do we convert a glasses prescription?
Glasses sit about 12 mm from the eye while contact lenses sit on it. So from ±4.00 diopters we adjust each meridian with the vertex distance formula and round to the nearest quarter diopter.
Dc = D / (1 − x · D)
Dc: contact lens power · D: glasses power · x: vertex distance in meters (0.012)
| Glasses | Contacts (myopia, −) | Contacts (hyperopia, +) |
|---|---|---|
| ±4.00 | −4.00 | +4.00 |
| ±4.50 | −4.25 | +4.75 |
| ±5.00 | −4.75 | +5.25 |
| ±5.50 | −5.25 | +6.00 |
| ±6.00 | −5.50 | +6.50 |
| ±7.00 | −6.50 | +7.75 |
| ±8.00 | −7.25 | +8.75 |
| ±10.00 | −9.00 | +11.25 |
For myopia the power decreases and for hyperopia it increases. Below ±4.00 the difference is negligible and no adjustment is made.
